Delete Comment Almost 100 years ago Walter Williams (seen above) began the Journalist’s Creed with the words, “I believe in the profession of journalism.”
Can journalists today make such a statement? How have readers’ expectations changed in recent years?
Today digital technology has altered the relationship between journalists and the public, with profound implications for democracy. People have nearly limitless access to information, allowing them to exercise their own news judgment. At the same time, the business model that supported professional journalism through the past century is deteriorating.
In the 21st Century can public-service journalism remain viable, relevant and accountable?
