I was once concerned about Google. Then I realized that my market doesn't care. They don't google their own communities. Community members and loyal readers (and advertisers) came from different sources like Facebook. Google helped my self-esteem, b…
Thank you. Thank you. I have been struggling with the view of journalists starting hyperlocals. I'm a business person who started a hyperlocal because I and my fellow merchants couldn't reach our customers in my small town. Traditional media was now…
Research has been question no one is addressing. As I continue to develop my hyperlocal, my biggest unknown has been figuring out how the people in my community use the internet to get information. Seems like a no brainer. In order to determine what…
One of the first things I did was join the chamber. My chamber has been extremely supportive. They are not closely aligned with the traditional media here. Don't take their attitudes personally. Having worked for a chamber, I realize they are not pr…
I operate a hyperlocal in a small, rural community. Work closely on how community adapts to new technology; In this environment, community is more important that tech. since most groups don't have websites.
What kind of help/insight do you hope to get from this community?
I need a place to just get ideas. My community is in transition between tech users and non tech users. In rural Kansas many believe the internet uses tubes. I need to know how to grow my site as I figure out who is using the site and how. Found internet users don't want news they can get easier at the coffee shop. Seem to be a future oriented group.
I think we should use the RJI Collaboratory incubator to develop:
Building blocks for geographic- or topic-based local Web news sites, Business assessment tools for local Web news sites, "How-To" handbook
Comment Wall (1 comment)
You need to be a member of RJI News Collaboratory to add comments!
Hi, Anne -- Can you tell me a little about your site? When you started it, what you were doing before you started it, how you're doing in ad sales, etc.? I'll add the basics to the Jurnos wiki. Or, you can join Jurnos wiki and add it yourself. Just let me know.
Cheers, Jane
