Very interesting -- where did Todd get her figures? Is that national, or specific to Columbia? And why did the farmers market decide 50 miles? Why not 100 or 150?

I have begun mapping out the localvore section of HealthCommons. The first thing I want people to understand is what exactly a localvore is and, more importantly, what health benefits emerge in effect.

Here is the discussion forum for localvores, our effort to report on local food here in Boone County. Feel free to post anything on the topic, whether it be progress made or something simple as a little interesting fact.

- Every dollar spent at local food markets/stores keeps $7 in the local community.

Q: What can we provide that will make the local food community… Continue

Localvore Storyboard Update

Wednesday, Jane and I looked at the storyboard I put together so far. While I had all the basic components necessary, Jane gave me a couple more ideas on what to add to board. My goal for the next couple of days is to find all the types of players involved in the local scene. I also need to find out more data on local food's impact on health. Ive talked to Mary Hendrickson, a Rural Sociology Professor at MU, on the phone a couple of times to get more of a feel for the local food scene. These con… Continue
