If you need an inexpensive way to create an iPhone app for your news site, http://www.appmakr.com/ works well. We used it for an app for our social-media blog and had little problem getting it through the App Store.

Inspired by the work of other independent journalists, I've begun creating a local online news site for my community. I'm going to blog about my efforts, successes and roadblocks. And I'm hoping this group will foster discussions that'll help us all.

What strengths/expertise do you have to offer?

I worked for 14 years as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Arkansas and Missouri. I've covered many areas over the years, but I'm probably most knowledgeable about business/financial reporting.

I am also interested in organizational change (I earned a graduate certificate from the University of Missouri, and my research focus is media management).

I am starting a nonprofit community-journalism site in Springfield, Mo., and I'd appreciate any guidance from people who have set up community collaborations as well as 501(c)3s.
