This is the busiest time of the year for us (when the crops are in the fields). But in the fall we're suppose to start working with a small Corn Belt firm that (maybe) will help move our site toward more of a content management system, at least in c…

First, Polly, let me say that I'm a big fan of theLoop. It was the first hyperlocal I ever visited. My daughter lives just outside of your coverage area, so I've also got an interest in things there. Second, I'm not talking about aggregation, at le…

Amy... Local coverage will certainly have to be part of the equation. But to some extent you've got to look bigger than you are because it's still a numbers game. I'm not talking about linking to the NY Times or the Christian Science Monitor. These…

One of the things I've seen with the limited number of hyperlocals I've visited is the lack of the "full meal deal" when it comes to content. There is no state, national or international news, none of the business or weather content I would want. T…

Did anybody see this article in Fast Company on hyperlocal journalism?

We launched a mobile site 3 or 4 years ago. Truthfully, this was a package deal that we bought through a service that provides content for our web site. We work in agriculture, and such things are available to small companies that want to have farme…

Far more people own & use cell phones than will ever use computers. Mobile is the key media strategy for the 21st century. How can news outlets integrate mobile into their online, social, print, & broadcast media efforts - as well as biz strategy?

Owen, I should mention that I was interested to read what's going on in Greenville, Miss. Although these days I work on Wall Street (literally); years ago I was the UPI Regional Executive for GA, AL and MS. Some of America's best journalists and best writers have traditionally come from the South.

Hi Owen. My guess is that cash starved local governments will push to post Legal ads on their own websites.

No problem! Welcome to the RJI Ning! You're saying you're looking for an intern? Email me at kep2n8@gmail.com and tell me more!

Thanks. We're in kind of an expansion mode this year, plus grappling with some new systems and technology, like social networking. I'm kind of looking around for an intern or part-time student help. As much as anything, I want to learn from them. Millennials/Gen-Y'ers have some quirks but also bring some interesting strengths to the table, based on our limited experiences, so far. This would be a position that allowed the student to work remotely. My wife and I operate the business with 1.5 other people. Our main employee lives across the street and two houses down, and we maybe only see her twice a month, so I'm not trying to tie anyone to our little patch of Mississippi.

Welcome to the network Owen! Glad to have someone aboard who's had to wear all hats to keep a journalism business going. And if you don't find what you're looking for on the site, feel free to post to get that conversation started. We're all about getting things done!
