BTW, great thought at the heart of this idea -- that businesses themselves would be an integral part of the news/information community. Adds such a fascinating new dimension to the traditional relationship of journalists and local businesses, one we…

Tim, a really interesting idea. We've certainly seen Ning social networks created for news purposes, such as what NPR's Andy Carvin did for coverage of Hurricane Gustav in 2008. Carvin says he had some 500 people involved, many using the network to…

FCC wants your comments on Future of Media by March 8

The FCC recently announced a new "Future of Media" initiative, and they're seeking comments. This is a good opportunity for emerging hyperlocal and niche news outlets to influence national media policy. So if you want your voice heard, speak up by March 8.

I recently wrote a detailed explanation of this project for the Knight Digital Media Center at USC. See:… Continue

Hi Adam,
Thanks so much. I appreciate all of your help in getting the word out. I'm really excited to become a newsentrepreneur. Please stay tuned because when SXSW kicks off next Friday I plan to post daily photos, blog entries and some videos. I've covered SXSW Interactive for several years, but always as a newspaper reporter with the San Antonio Express-News. I'm totally excited to go it on my own this year and I hope to be an inspiration to other ex-pro journos to pursue news ventures of their own. I've never had more fun.

Thank you Adam for welcoming me to the site. I'm experimenting with a new technology blog www.techchi.com right now. I'll be attending SXSW Interactive in Austin in 9 days. I wrote a blog for four years for the San Antonio Express-News in addition to all my other reporting duties. I'm looking forward to focusing my reporting efforts on my entrepreneurial venture.

When I tried to sign in, the system told me it needed to verify my e-mail address. OK, I thought, that's not unheard of. So when I verified - voila, it told me I had a new account. ????

Thanks for the welcome Adam. Those freaky bogus users are now turning up on Twitter and sending Follow requests. If she's cute, but has that slightly odd gaze of a tired hooker, banish her!

Thanks. I just attended the week-long Scripps Howard Institute on the Environment, which was great. Your presentation, Adam, was extremely helpful for those of us working to create a new biz model centered on the Web and new media. Since I returned I've added Google Ads to my site and have approached pubs with large online presence about contributing to their blogs (to drive readers to my own site), started looking for corporate underwriters, and most important, added an RJI widget to my site.
