  • Looking for the skills that will allow you to successfully launch an entrepreneurial journalism project? You might want to look into free training opportunities, such as at Knight Digital Media Center. This week, they're looking for applicants for spring workshops on skills in web publishing and news entrepreneurship.
  • Emerging hyperlocal and niche news outlets have an opportuhity to influence national media policy - the Federal Communications Commission is looking for comments on its new "Future of Media" initiative. We've posted a PDF of the entire request for comments, which lists dozens of questions the FCC is looking for feedback on by March 8.
  • Can journalism educators help our industry move forward from legacy media approaches? Collaboratory manager Jane Stevens points to this list of suggestions from Dan Gillmor, but points out some obstacles that could also get in the way.
  • Success in launching successful niche news sites does not come without a personal cost, observes one journalist entrepreneur. When do you need to take a step back?
